ELSEWORLDS 80-PAGE GIANT #1 - Cancelled By DC Comics

11 August '99
Catwoman: Guardian of Gotham
This August, writer Doug Moench and artist Jim Balent are turning the tables on the classic heated love/hate relationship between Batman and Catwoman in the 2-issue prestige format Elseworlds mini-series, Catwoman: Guardian of Gotham. According to information provided by the publisher, "In the darkened streets of Gotham City, a lone figure wages an uncompromising war against the strange villains - the Joker, Two-Face, Killer Croc, and more - that call the city home. Orphaned by criminals, the vigilante finds grudging acceptance from local law officials, who call for aid with a spotlight in the heavens: the Cat-Signal."

"This turnabout tale is revealed in Catwoman: Guardian Of Gotham, an Elseworlds miniseries that casts Selina Kyle as the chief defender of an even darker Gotham than the one found in the traditional DCU. This Gotham is under siege from a brutal vigilante who murders the city's freakish criminals... the Bat-Man. As Selina closes in on the mysterious cowl-wearing menace, she is unaware that he has already rooted out her true identity, and, as millionaire Bruce Wayne, has gotten close to her...very close."

NEW! CATWOMAN: GUARDIAN OF GOTHAM #2
Written by Doug Moench; art by Jim Balent and Kim DeMulder; cover by Balent.

The team behind last year's BATMAN: TWO FACES returns for a Victorian Elseworlds one-shot combining elements of Mary Shelley's classic, Frankenstein with the Superman mythos. Obsessed scientist Viktor Luthor creates his own form of life - one he believes will be a Superman, but like plans of all mad scientists, plans quickly go awry.

Elseworlds. The team responsible for Batman: Two Faces reunites for a Prestige Format one-shot blending Frankenstein with the Man of Steel. In 1880s Switzerland, promising science student Vicktor Luthor is expelled from the university for his experiments in the creation of life. Wandering the forests near his home, he comes upon the discovery of a lifetime: a vessel from another world, whose cargo provides him with both a second chance...and a terrifying fate. Luthor's bizarre, resurrected creation possesses powers beyond those of mortal men, but will the world accept this strange being?

Son of Superman

NEW! Elseworlds hardcover by Howard Chaykin, David Tischman, J.H. Williams, and Mick Gray, is the story of Jon Kent, the teenage son of Superman; Jon never knew his father, who disappeared seventeen years before, so he's not sure exactly what to expect when a period of sunspot activity brings about strange changes in his body... superhuman changes. Set in the near future, this 96-page hardcover continues the Super4man saga into the next generation.

Flashpoint

NEW! When Barry Allen is given superspeed powers in 1956, he uses his abilities to do more than battle supervillains. In Flashpoint, an Elseworlds miniseries by Pat McGreal and Norman Breyfogle, readers meet a Barry Allen who used his ability to work for the government as a covert agent, altering the outcome of the Cuban Missile Crisis and saving President Kennedy from an assassin's bullet. However, Barry Allen paid a price for the presidential rescue: paralysis from the neck down. That doesn't mean that Barry Allen has retired, though; his mind is still working super-fast to find a way to transform Earth into a utopia... but he never reckoned on the interference of Vandal Savage.
