...And escapes into a subway---which leads him past the statues of the Seven Deadly Sins and into the presence of the wizard "Shazam"! The wizard praises the boy for remaining level-headed and compassionate even though his entire life, up until his parents' murder, had been given to him on a silver platter. Shazam explains that his own name is an acronym, and identifies what each letter stands for. "SPEAK MY NAME!" he tells Bruce. The name is spoken, and a lightning bolt transforms the orphan into a heroic-looking champion clad in navy blue, with a cowled-and-masked face and a wide, full cape draped over his left shoulder. A stylized gold lightning bolt stretches diagonally from shoulder to waist. "I salute you," says Shazam, "for you are Captain DarkKnight, the scourge of evil! Strike terror into the hearts of the criminals of this world. Restore the upper hand of Good over the forces of Evil and Chaos!" ...And so begins the destiny of this hero. His first villain? Dr. Freezana, a blend of Mr. Freeze and Doctor Sivana.
